Oral cancer screening with Velscope

Sometimes I am a little slow in deciding to make an important purchase, but once I do it - I move ahead with it full blast. We finally received our velscope- a non invasive very effective adjunct to our oral cancer screening exam. The scope helps us visualize potentialy cancerous lesions in the mouth using flouresence technology.-- There are no liquids to swish and nothing except the high intensity light from the light source enters your mouth. We can detect lesions that are imperceptible by traditional visual examination. Oral cancer is deadly if not detected early . One of the causes of oral cancer is the HPV virus which women already know as the virus that can cause cervical cancer. In fact, the incidence of oral cancer is now greater than cervical cancer. This tool is very effective at detecting oral lesions and we are recommending that patient get this exam one time per year.

Thanks for the post Barry. I am so glad that there is more and more advancements in medical technology. It's awesome that we can check for oral cancer with just a light now.
